Primary schools in The Cornovii Trust, Alsager Highfields, Audlem St James and Weston recently took part in the inaugural ‘Cornovii Trust Public Speaking Competition’ based on the theme of ‘My Big Ambition’. All Year 6 children from each school competed and each school picked their four finalists. The final took place at Alsager School, in front of a panel of judges from the trust board, Mr Cliffe, Mr Leech, Mr Scales and Mr Middlebrook (CEO).
The standard of competition was extremely high, all the finalists spoke with confidence, intelligence and passion about their ‘Big Ambition’ but what was really interesting was how they approached the topic from so many different angles. Their ambitions ranged from cleaning the oceans of plastic, becoming a doctor, remaining friends with someone for life and becoming a concert pianist to name a few. It really was inspiring.
Everyone who competed should be very proud of themselves and the judges had a very difficult decision to make, after much deliberation they awarded the trophy and title to Alsager Highfields Primary School. Congratulations to them and to everyone who took part. Thank you also to the staff in the three schools who made this happen and to the judges. Everyone agreed that it was a great success and will become an annual competition between our schools.
